Jomsom Muktinath Trek is one of exotic and adventurous trek in Annapurna and Mustang region of Nepal. This classical trekking adventure allows you to explore the tremendous diversity of the Annapurna region following the ancient trade route to Tibet along the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the world’s deepest gorge. The trek offers exceptional views of mountain vistas, semi-arid landscapes, unique temples and monasteries along the windy valleys.

13 day Jomsom Muktinath trek starts with a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley (which still have much to offer, despite ravages in recent earthquake). Next, we take short flight to Pokhara, the city of Lake. We trek through picturesque landscapes of Annapurna region and gradually enter the Mustang region. The trail crosses ancient settlements, cascading waterfalls, magical forest and semi-arid leeward side of Himalaya. The surprisingly diverse landscapes and towering snow-clad peaks combined with amazing culture makes this trek more enticing.

We visit Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang: Once Forbidden Kingdom decorated with barren land of beauty against the shadow of giant peaks. Along the route, the traditional settlement of Gurung, Thakali and Magar will keep you enthralled. We also hike through fascinating Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, and pay homage to revered Mukitnath Temple. Mukitnath at 3710m is sacred temple for both Hindus and Buddhist. Here we visit Muktinath temple, shrines of different god and goddess and natural gas spot. Next, we retrace our steps back to Jomsom and catch a flight to Pokhara.

Day01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

After arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a representative from Annapurna encounter will receive you and transfer to the hotel. After hotel check in and short refreshment, you may visit Annapurna Encounter office in Thamel. In the evening, enjoy welcome dinner hosted by Annapurna encounter which is the great introduction to the country’s food culture.

Day02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and preparation for the trek

After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing around the famous UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu. We visit Pashupatinath Temple – the sacred Hindu temple located on the bank of holy river Bagmati, Boudha Stupa – the biggest stupa architecture in Nepal and Swayambhunath Stupa – the 2,000 years old legendary Stupa perched on a the hillock.

The sightseeing tour also covers the visit to Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, the Krishna Temple, the Kumbheswore Temple, the Golden Temple and many more. The sightseeing tour ends Kathmandu Durbar Square that is home to living goddess Kumari, Nautale Durbar, the Kaal Bhairav, the Swer Bhairav, the Freak Street and more.

Day03: Flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara (823m/2,700ft) and trek to Tikhendhunga (1,552m/5,090ft): 30 minutes flight, 4 – 5 hours trek

After breakfast, we fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara with an outstanding views of valleys, hills and mountains. After landing in Pokhara, we drive to Nayapul (1 hour and 20 minutes) and start the trek. We walk towards the Bhurundi River and make an ascend through the lush forest. Next, we cross a suspension bridge before rising up to Tikhedhunga.

Day04: Tikhedhunga – Ghorepani (2,750m/9,020ft) – 6 – 7 hours trek

Today, we climb down through the forest and cross a bridge over the Burundi Khola. We negotiate a steep trial to Ulleri and continue ascending further to reach Ghorepani. Ghorepani means “horse water” in Nepali. The village used to an important campsite for horse trader where they stop and feed water to their horse.

Day05: Ghorepani – Tatopani (1,190m/3,904ft) – 5 – 6 hours trek

Today we enjoy the great views of Annapurna south and Nilgiri mountains before starting our journey to Tatopani. At first, we descend to Shikha village followed by another descend to Ghar Khola village. Next we cross the suspension bridge before heading straight up to Tatopani. Here we soothe at natural hot spring to relax our tired muscles

Day06: Tadapani – Ghasa (2,110m/6,922ft) – 5 – 6 hours trek

After breakfast, we climb gradually on a trail with Kali Gandaki River on our right. We walk across beautiful waterfalls, Rupse Chhahara and ascend further to Ghasa which is majestically perched in the lower part of Kali Gandaki valley. The village is paradise for bird-watching enthusiasts.

Day07: Ghasa – Marpha (2,680m/8,792ft) – 4 – 5 hours trek

Today we climb through a steep forest to the Lete Khola (stream). As we join a eastern trail and reach Larjung village. On the way we admire beautiful apple orchards and vegetable farms. Marpha is popular for its tasty apples.

Day08: Marpha – Kagbeni (2,810m/9,218ft) – 4 – 5 hours trek

From Marpha, we climb a ridge and reach Jomsom. Now we take a northern trail towards Kagbeni, up the Kali Gandaki River which is the deepest gorge in the world. It gets windy so it is very important to walk on a steady pace. From Kagbeni we get the great views of Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peaks.

Day09: Kagbeni – Muktinath (3,710m/12,170ft) – 5 – 6 hours trek

After getting permits checked, we move on a trail along the riverbank of Kaligandaki. We climb steeply that connect the trail to Khingar at 3,200m. The trail then rises through arid landscapes until Jarkot village. Further climb leads us to Muktinath.

Day10: Muktinath – Jomsom (2,715m/8,910ft) – 5 – 6 hours trek

Muktinath is significant pilgrimage site from Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. We pay homage to Muktinath temple before joining our trail to Jomsom. There are water spots where holy water pours out channeled from the streams above the temple. As we move we can admire the incredible beauty of Mt. Dhaulagiri. We walk through the meadow, cross streams and hill to reach Kagbeni. It is a village laden with chortens (memorial stupas) and monasteries. After lunch at Kagbeni, we walk through Kali Gandaki River valley to reach Jomsom.

Day11: Fly from Jomsom – Pokhara (823m/2,700ft) – 30 minute flight

After breakfast, we catch an early morning flight to Pokhara. The flight is exciting as we get the aerial view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world.
The comfortable climate will definitely make us feel better. We take a boat ride in turquoise lake of Phewa. If time permits, we visit Davis falls and various cultural sites.

Day12: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu

After morning breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu via tourist bus enjoying the mid hill scenery. After hotel check in, take a rest day off or enjoy free day at Kathmandu or catch up on some last minute shopping or explore missed physical landmarks in Kathmandu. Join farewell dinner organized by Annapurna Encounter to celebrate the successful completion of the journey.

Day13: Final Departure

Your adventurous journey in Nepal comes to an end today. Our airport representative will drop you to airport approximately 3 hours before our scheduled flight.
